Happy Birthday TB Joshua Watch!
Two years ago TB Joshua Watch was launched. We only had material for a small number of posts, but having seen the damage TB Joshua’s ministry had done on people close to us, we felt someone had to speak out. There had to be a place online where people were free to ask honest questions about TB Joshua and SCOAN. A place where the other side of the story could be told to the glossy edited version released through SCOAN’s official channels.
2 years, 95 posts and over 5000 comments later, TB Joshua Watch is still going strong, the backlog of not-yet-written posts is bigger than ever and we’ve become one of the most visited sites on the Internet about the man. In this post we will give a run down of our top 10 most popular posts of all time (click on the title to read the post).
10. Who is TB Joshua (3,403 views)
This was one of our earliest posts giving an introduction to TB Joshua trying to make some sense of the controversy and mystery which surrounds him.
9. SCOAN attempts to blackmail TB Joshua Watch (3,779 views)
In this post we reveal one of the methods SCOAN use to keep their disciples from talking. Each disciple is expected to make a confession video in order to be fully forgiven. This video is kept on record in case it is ever needed for blackmail purposes. In this post we show evidence that SCOAN threatened to do just that to a young lady who told her story through our site.
8. Proof that TB Joshua DID NOT predict the Colorado shooting (4,296 views)
Every time a widely reported tragedy hits the news, you can be sure that TB Joshua will exploit it by claiming to have predicted it. The recent Colorado cinema shooting was no different. In this post we show video evidence that the original prediction only fitted the Colorado shooting in the most basic of ways (a mass shooting in America), the original prophecy contained lots of details which had to be edited out.
7. TB Joshua and SCOAN – a beginners guide (5,408 views)
This post was put up in response to the huge media attention SCOAN received after a BBC news program exposed their London branch for contributing to the deaths of AIDS victims by telling them to stop taking their medication. This post was written to give an overview of who TB Joshua and SCOAN is for the benefit of all the new people suddenly hearing about him. This post was even linked to by renowned physician and science writer Ben Goldacre!
6. TB Joshua, a false Christ? (5,741 views)
In this post we showed evidence that to many, TB Joshua is a false christ. The three reasons are: 1) His words are considered equal to God’s, 2) He is considered the healer (not Jesus) and 3) He is worshiped. More recently in response to some of his most ardent followers coming right out and calling him christ, we posted 2 followups: TB Joshua, the messiah and TB Joshua, the messiah – is it SCOAN behind these claims?
5. The tricks behind TB Joshua’s prophecies: revealed! (9,348 views)
This post showed clear video evidence that TB Joshua’s prophecy videos are edited to make them appear more accurate than they really are. The video produced has now received nearly 200,000 views and has appeared on countless African news sites. You can watch the video here.
4. TB Joshua Abuse Allegations #1 (11,802 views)
Another one of our early posts. This looks at some of the online allegations of abuse leveled at TB Joshua. Further stories have been told since on our site (for example, Emma’s story) and several other cases are known to us, but the victims prefer to stay quiet and put the incidents behind them.
3. The Miracles of TB Joshua (12,368 views)
In this post we hear from an ex-disciple and a British Doctor who used to be heavily involved with SCOAN. They caution us not to take everything seen on Emmanuel TV at face value and tell of incidents they saw that clearly manipulated the truth.
2. How to get your hands on TB Joshua’s anointed water (19,645 views)
This post examines the phenomenon of TB Joshua’s anointed water, and asks whether it is (as SCOAN claim) really free.
1. Is SCOAN a cult? (25,659 views)
By far the most popular of our posts is another one of our first which presented a checklist of 14 cult identifying criteria designed by The International Cultic Studies Association, a worldwide authority on cults. Not surprisingly SCOAN ticks nearly all the boxes.
Now as we enter the third year of our existence our prayer is that the resources on this site help protect impressionable Christians from the apparently impressive ministry of TB Joshua. We pray that those who are already deceived will come to know freedom and the freely available grace of God. Keep reading, keep commenting and keep sharing these resources with all who need to see them. As well as reading the site, you can also follow us on Twitter and “Like us” on Facebook.
God bless and Happy new year.
