An update to our comments policy

As any regular reader may have noticed, the comments are getting a little bit out of control. In addition to the previous post about comment moderation, we are adding another couple of rules to try and make the dialogue as useful and constructive as possible.

  1. Keep the comments short! If your comment is more than around 300 words, we probably won’t approve it, regardless of its point of view. If you have a lot to say, start your own blog and post a link.
  2. Stick to one topic per comment, the dialogue gets particularly messy when there are several different conversations being addressed in one comment.
  3. Directly address the issues raised and avoid red herrings* (Soe, I’m looking at you! 😉 )

*A Red Herring is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue
