Another deadly stampede at SCOAN

SCOAN auditorium during busier times

Back in 2013, 4 people lost their lives at an anointed water service at SCOAN in Ghana. In 2014 around 116 people died when SCOAN’s illegal building collapsed on them. Now reports are coming out that 3 are dead after a stampede at SCOAN in Lagos. The incident happened before their annual healing and deliverance service, a stampede took place while visitors rushed to get through the door. As expected, SCOAN are denying anything has happened, a reporter quotes their spokesperson as saying “Nothing happened on the church premises yesterday. Nobody died. Nobody. Thank you.” however, the local police public relations office confirmed the incident.

These three incidents should serve as a warning to the public – SCOAN is not a safe place to visit, their crowd control is woefully insufficient and they completely ignore government regulations regarding building safety. SCOAN may try and present themselves as a place of healing, but events like these show the reality is tragically different.

Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones in this latest SCOAN disaster, and just before Christmas too. It’s likely that they spent a significant amount of their life’s savings to get to SCOAN in desperate search of a healing. Instead they have returned in a coffin. We call on the local authorities to fully investigate this incident, to enforce appropriate controls on SCOAN and to complete the building collapse trial. The SCOAN death toll must be brought to an end.

Fake deliverance at SCOAN

Not much going on in TB Joshua-land at the moment except for repeats of old material, so we’ll join the club and repeat one of our old articles. If you missed this the first time, read on to see evidence that nobody is really delivered at SCOAN.

A reader recently made us aware of a video of the ex-Pastor of SCOAN Athens being delivered over a year ago from a “spirit of lust and anger that caused him to be disgraced”. This is the same man who is now the subject of allegations of sexual abuse from 4 young women, and was recently described by Wise Man Harry as a “rude, disobedient, disrespectful and full of anger man”.

Two things should be observed here:

1) SCOAN are allowing “demon possessed” people to lead their branches

At the time of the deliverance, SCOAN Athens was still a fully functioning official branch. The man being delivered from demons was the pastor authorised by TB Joshua to lead this branch of his ministry. There are videos online of nearly all the foreign SCOAN leaders and disciples being dramatically delivered from demons, which leads you to wonder why they were ever chosen to lead within SCOAN? Who wants to be part of a church who’s leaders are crawling with demons? As it happens, the people who we know who have dedicated their lives to SCOAN were exemplary Christians, the fact they sacrificed successful careers, education and many other things to pursue full time ministry at SCOAN is testament to their desire to serve God with everything they had. These were exactly the kind of people you would be happy to see in church leadership…. nothing like the crazed, staring, demon-manifesting people we see after years of service to SCOAN. If this is what SCOAN does to you, keep as far away as possible.

2) Deliverance at SCOAN does not work

Or at least it didn’t seem to work in the case of the ex-Athens pastor, and this is far from the only deliverance fail we are aware of. Many years ago TB Joshua conducted a crusade in Australia. There was a well broadcast deliverance of a woman during this crusade, culminating in TB Joshua proclaiming her free, and even bizarrely claiming that her deliverance resulted in 5000 other people being set free. Giles was a disciple at the time, he says that “she later came to Lagos, and I was surprised to see her no different. She had come for more deliverance, and she was behaving the same way. Obviously she was not delivered in Australia.” There are also the well publicised cases of Nigerian celebrities such as Tonto Dike and Jim Iyke who TB Joshua has famously delivered, but without resulting in any visible change in lifestyle.

This is more evidence that you can’t trust anything you see on Emmanuel TV.

I wonder why today’s men in religion like publicizing deliverances and even bringing shame on those being delivered. Is this the way and will of God? Is it a way of attracting people for business or what? I would rather watch someone preach the word on TV and the rest should be done off TV or off screen. We need the word of truth on TVs more than deliverances and miracles. In fact Satan is more scared of the truth than miracles/deliverances. The truth liberates and the pure word of God is like fire.

Lucifer reveals TB Joshua’s mission – to liberate the world

As any occasional Emmanuel TV viewer will be aware, SCOAN make a habit of interviewing “demons” before casting them out, in direct contrast to Jesus’ practice of keeping them silent (Luke 4:35). In fact, Emmanuel TV often seems to contain more messages from “demons” than scriptural content. A reader recently pointed us in the direction of a particularly shocking deliverance video. A woman, who we are led to believe is channeling lucifer, is interviewed for about 20 minutes by a “wise man”. At the climax of this interview, lucifer claims that TB Joshua is sent to liberate the world, not just Nigeria, but the world at large. This statement is then repeated, both times to whoops of delight from the congregation.

Though we’re used to TB Joshua’s “win/win” prophecies, in this case we actually have a “lose/lose” scenario. The bible teaches us that satan (lucifer) is the father of lies “…there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44b). Either we believe this really is lucifer speaking and so assume it is a lie, or we assume the lady is acting, therefore it is also a lie. Either way, neither the deliverance clip nor scripture can possible lead us to believe TB Joshua really is here to liberate the world – that job started on the cross of calvary and continues to this day, no thanks to (false) prophet TB Joshua.

This video is just another shocking example of SCOAN promoting TB Joshua as a messiah, remember he has already been named the “Jesus of our generation” and the “messiah of our time” on Emmanuel TV, and no attempt has been made to correct these statements.

TB Joshua loves Boko Haram

TB Joshua is as happy as a kid in a candy store right now. As Boko Haram commits deplorable act after deplorable act as a way of drawing attention to their ideology, TB Joshua piggy backs on these deplorable acts in order to draw attention to himself (let’s face it, TB Joshua’s ideology is TB Joshua).

Look at the following list of shocking exploitation of this national tragedy.

  1. Setting up an obviously fake stunt* where a “Boko Haram member who has come to bomb SCOAN” gets delivered by TB Joshua.
  2. Exploiting the 14th April Abuja bombing by claiming he predicted it, editing out the part in the original video where he claims it will happen before the middle of December 2013.
  3. Marketing his blasphemous anointed water in the aftermath of the bombing (a man confidently reads from a script testifying how his car was blown up in the bomb killing all except him, his demeanor gives no hint that a few days before he was supposedly surrounded by dead and dismembered bodies).
  4. Exploiting the 1st May Abuja bombing, again releasing an edited video claiming he predicted it.
  5. Exploiting the appalling kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls by repeating news commentary dressed up as prophecy.
  6. Raising the hopes of the schoolgirls parents by assuring them that “unless I’m not called by God, I place my career and my calling on the line, that this 200+ schoolchildren have to be released immediately.” on the 3rd May.
  7. Performing a second fake “Boko Haram member captured and delivered at SCOAN” stunt.

TB Joshua claims to be a powerful prophet who has predicted all kinds of international events. Why is it he can’t locate the school girls? Maybe the authorities wouldn’t have taken the advice of a Nigerian prophet seriously in the Malaysian airlines crisis, but in Nigeria everyone would sit up and listen if he revealed their location. TB Joshua claims his anointed water protects you from fire and bullets, casts out demons and diseases. Why can’t it deliver schoolgirls from captivity?

What we’ve seen with both the MH370 disaster and the Boko Haram crisis is that TB Joshua’s so called “prophetic ministry” is no help at all in a complex situation. If there is a simple and contained crisis like a shooting in America, he can easily deliver an edited prophecy claiming he predicted it. When a situation gets complex and when someone with genuine insight could actually be of real help, TB Joshua falls way off the mark.

One thing to remember here is TB Joshua’s own words “unless I’m not called by God, I place my career and my calling on the line, that this 200+ schoolchildren have to be released immediately.” This was said 10 days ago and counting. Everyday his credibility is fading.

Pray for these poor schoolgirls and their parents. It’s impossible to understand what they’re going through, but God knows. Trust that they will find comfort and the girls will know freedom. Pray that both Boko Haram and TB Joshua will repent of their evil schemes and find salvation through the cross of Jesus Christ.

* Before anyone points it out, we’re aware that TB Joshua has now claimed that the first Boko Haram member captured at SCOAN is now in police custody and has been confirmed as a genuine member, but please remember TB Joshua is the only source of this information, and he’s not exactly known for his honesty. The only semi-official response from the authorities dismissed the whole event as fake.

TB Joshua is the “last prophet of the last days” (according to a demon)

You know things are getting desperate when you have to get your endorsements from “demons”. The following is part of the testimony of an “ex-satanist” who had been commissioned to destroy TB Joshua’s ministry. The demon who possessed him claims that TB Joshua is the “last prophet of the last days” and the “right anointed appointed prophet to raise the dead church leaders and the churches themselves” (video).

When [the devil] lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44b)

TB Joshua should be arrested for his Boko Haram stunt

A confessed terrorist unrestrained in a large group of people

A confessed terrorist unrestrained in a large group of people he planned to kill

Back in 2011 TB Joshua used the Boko Haram crisis to make a name for himself by claiming that they would be long forgotten about a few months into 2012. Sadly this prophecy has proven completely wrong, but it hasn’t stopped him from continuing to exploit the crisis for his own gain. This time, in one of his sunday circuses services a self-proclaimed Boko Haram member confessed that he had come with 4 accomplices to bomb SCOAN. To avoid being accused of misreporting, here is the video and this is the SCOAN report of what happened:

Nearing the end of the service, Prophet T.B. Joshua announced that a young man had a confession to make. The man by the name of Mustapha confessed that he was a member of the Boko Haram sect, which he explained was a cult. He admitted that his initial mission to The SCOAN was to place a bomb in the vicinity with the intent of killing hundreds. Mustapha, who said he was accompanied by four others, had the explosives hidden in a bag. They sat down to eat at a restaurant very close to The SCOAN, explaining that Emmanuel TV was playing in the background as they ate. At that moment, Prophet T.B. Joshua’s prayer for viewers began airing.

Mustapha, who had never been to Lagos, attended church or seen T.B. Joshua before, said, “By the time you (T.B. Joshua) prayed and laid hands on the screen, it was like you were there with us and you joined our midst. As you laid your hands on the screen, you laid your hands on our face. That was when confusion came between us; everybody scattered.”

[… edited for brevity…]

Several hours later, T.B. Joshua readdressed the issue and brought the young man forward again, stating that God had warned him of the impending attack several weeks ago and that he had been engaging in intensive prayers for the past fortnight. “It was not a surprise to me because I have seen it. My mission is to separate him from the spirit that is controlling him to do that. We are not to fight mere flesh and blood,” he explained.

As Prophet T.B. Joshua prayed, the Boko Haram member fell on the floor before beginning to vomit some strange substances. There was a tattoo of a scorpion clearly visible on his shoulder, which Mustapha explained was a sign of the cult. He further explained that this was the first mission he went on where this had happened as he had never failed before. After praying for him again in the power of the Holy Spirit, the young man fell once more to the floor. Upon getting up, tears were in his eyes. “The spirit leading him to kill is gone,” Prophet T.B. Joshua declared! We thank Jesus Christ for this mighty deliverance.

Notice how the man is brought forward twice, several hours apart. That means this man who has just confessed to coming to SCOAN to kill hundreds of people, and has yet to have the demon leading him to kill cast out (if you’re to accept the SCOAN narrative) is free and unrestrained for hours among the group of people he planned to kill!

His accomplices are still running free, probably with the bomb. How has the service been allowed to continue if this was a genuine threat? If there was an ounce of truth to this story, the authorities would have been immediately called as soon as the guy came forward, why would they keep a confessed killer and terrorist around for hours, unrestrained for a live confession and deliverance?

In case it’s not obvious enough by now that this was all a monumentally stupid and deceptive stunt, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko has described the claims as baseless. We commend Mr Umar for speaking out and dispelling the nonsense, but this should not stop here. According to SCOAN, they had a terrorist in their midst. TB Joshua needs to be taken into police custody and questioned about this. If there is any truth to the claim, the man and his accomplices will be arrested and tried, and TB Joshua should be cautioned for not immediately turning him in to the authorities. If the claims turn out to be completely false, TB Joshua should be arrested and tried for wasting police time and creating a bomb scare.
